Books
Here are some books that I highly recommend…
Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott. This is a great book! Susan Scott highlights 7 principles of having powerful and intense conversations at work and at home. I believe that this is a must read for true leaders, consultants, and coaches as there are many keys to successful communication included in the book along with many powerful questions to help interrogate reality.
The Anatomy of Peace: Resolving the Heart by the Arbinger Institute. A “prequel” to Leadership and Self Deception, this book provides more in-depth information about self-justifying thoughts and examples of how these thoughts cause conflicts in all aspects of life. An interesting aspect portrayed in the book was the effect these thoughts have on leaders in organizations and their ability to inspire their people to execute strategies. The book provides some techniques to move beyond these thoughts and actions. I found this book to be an easy read, and well worth the time for the insight.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. This book has plenty of great information in it. If it’s been a while since you last read this book, I encourage you to dig it out and re-read it. If you’re interested in self-development and are interested in taking personal leadership of your own life, this book is an excellent resource. The book has many worthwhile exercises and thought provoking questions to help you obtain clarity about what’s important to you, how you want to shape your life and how you interact with other people. Well worth the time investment to read or re-read.
